Spanish shoe, bag, and accessories brand Castañer has one boutique in Singapore, located within Takashimaya Shopping Centre, at 391 Orchard Road. (UPDATE 2020: THE STORE HAS CLOSED)
Founded by Luis Castañer and Tomàs Serra in 1927, when they took over a former espadrille workshop dating back to 1776.
For a short time in 1936, the company was nationalized during the Spanish Civil War, as the espadrilles were considered as a product of military interest, almost exclusively worn by soldiers on the front lines.
As a brand and in terms of popularity of espadrille shoes, Castañer took off during the 1970s, when Yves Saint Laurent requested the company for espadrilles with heels for a famous Parisian show.
This departure took the espadrille shoes out of the rural, everyday domain, and the brand into the world of high fashion and luxury footwear, seen on the red carpet, in haute couture, and in modern cities the world over.
Today, Castañer makes a full range of shoes for women and men, as well as bags, accessories, and bridal footwear.
In Singapore, you can purchase women’s shoes, boots, ankle boots, sandals, clogs, espadrilles, and sneakers, while for men, the range features shoes, ankle boots, sneakers, as well as espadrilles.
The Castañer bag and accessories collection, on the other hand, contains backpacks, shoulder bags, sack bags, leather bags, city bags…
…handbags, coin purses, key rings, shopping bags, necklaces, scarves, pendants, toiletry bags, card holders, and hats.
