Founded by Jacob Golomb in New York City, USA, in 1910, the brand designs, manufactures, and retails boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA), and fitness related clothing, sporting goods equipment, footwear, and accessories.
Although synonymous with boxing, the company started as a swimwear manufacturer with a promise of offering customers very long lasting swimsuits, thus the name of the company.
The brand got involved in boxing as early as 1917, when a young fighter named Jack Dempsey got the the company involved in the sport, to manufacture protective headgear that would last more than the usual 15 rounds of intensive boxing training.
Just two years later (in 1919), after training with custom-made protective headgear from the company, Dempsey won the world heavyweight championship while also wearing the brand’s boxing gloves, making both the company and the fighter legendary in the process.
