A good Judo school in Singapore, SA Judo Academy, has five locations to choose from, including SA Budo Centre within Bukit Timah (33 Lorong Kilat).

Founded by South East Asian Games gold medalist Mr Tang Soon Onn in 2003, the academy is today one of the trusted local Judo clubs, a place where quality of training is a top priority, as is promoting the spiritual and physical benefits of the self-defence martial art.

For the classes and lessons, featuring Japanese-style pedagogy that retains the core values and principles of Judo, the academy has a team of passionate coaches, who each have at least 10 years of experience in competitions and coaching.

Over the years, the club has nurtured many students who have represented Singapore in overseas competitions.

You can join classes across the school’s five locations across Singapore, and there are options available for all ages, from children, to youth, and adults, with different classes for specific techniques and individual ability.

At Children’s Classes (available to children from 4 to 12 years old) special attention is paid to new comers by the experienced trainers in the learning of basics, such as fundamental throws and breakfalls, before being allowed to join the classes in full.

Safety being a priority, the children’s classes are conducted by a team of experienced coaches with a healthy coach-to-student ratio with at least 4 coaches every class.

Youth Classes (available to youth 12 to 16 years old), in comparison with the competitive classes, have more emphasis on fundamentals and techniques are taught on a weekly basis.

The Youth Classes are also a bridge for children who graduated from the kids classes.

All beginners at Youth Classes are given special attention to learn the fundamentals of Judo, such as falling patterns (breakfalls) and basic throws, before being allowed to join the class proper.

Finally, Adult Classes (16 years old and above) are available as Recreational Classes, Competitive Classes, as well as Elite Team training.

Recreational Classes, in comparison with the competitive classes, provide more emphasis on fundamentals and techniques are taught on a weekly basis.

For adult beginners, special attention is given to learn the fundamentals of the martial art, such as falling patterns (breakfalls) and basic throws, before being allowed to join the class in full.

The competitive Judo classes are conducted with a heavy emphasis on technical and competition skills, while the Elite Team consists of competitive students who are active members of the Singapore National Team.
