American bag and luggage brand Timbuk2 has one retail store in Singapore, located within Bugis Junction shopping centre (200 Victoria Street).
Founded by San Francisco based bike messenger Rob Honeycutt in 1989, Timbuk2 sells a wide variety of bags and luggage, including customized versions of their product range.
Given the founder’s profession, the first product by Timbuk2 was the now-iconic Timbuk2 messenger bag.
Since then, the range has expanded to cover backpacks, travel gear (including luggage), women’s specialty bags, totes, accessories, work bags, and even apparel (such as hoodies & t-shirts).
All the bags carry lifetime warranties, which covers defects in the materials or workmanship.
Timbuk2 is also known for popularizing bag customization to the masses, intially selling custom messenger bags to bike shops in the 1990s, and then launching an online bag customizer service (at www.timbuk2.com) to everybody in 1999.
In addition to the online customizer, you can also custom-order your bag at the Timbuk2 retail store. Cut and sewn in the company’s San Francisco factory, the one-of-a-kind custom bags are shipped out to customers within ten business days.
While the custom-made bags have been handmade in San Francisco ever since the company was founded, today, they also have factories making non-customized versions of the products in Taiwan and Vietnam.
The San Francisco factory team, consisting of 14 skilled textile workers, also makes branded bags for companies and organizations around the world.
